Oh boy!!! More of the wonderful gold carpet. What a pity, but I just had to rip it up. Notice the charming accordian doors on the two door openingsSo...I took out one accordian door and replaced the other with a single panel hinged door, to match the two doors still remaining in the master bedroom that were original to the house. Then we added simple 1X4 and 1X2 boards to create the recessed panel wainscotting.view into the guest room from the dining room. Then - - we painted the new boards and the "recessed panels" a semiglowss white to give it all an appearance of wood paneling, rather than a combination of sheetrock and wood.I found the server and chairs in the little antique store I mentioned where I got the backgammon table. The table, believe it or not was an ebay find. The server had a rattan rod across the back that could have been used for a slot for bottles, but I added a glass shelf. I covered the walls above the wainscotting with barkcloth from Dogwood Fabrics. This was the first time I had ever upholstered a wall, and I didn't have the right stapler, or staples. To get into the corners you need a long nose staple gun, and 1/4" staples would probably have been better. I sewed the fabric into large pieces that would cover each wall, and then hid the staples at the corners and top and bottom with double welting, that I hot glued on.It takes a lot of double welting, so I had my friends at Drape It in Waltham Ma sew it for me, as they have a sewing foot that does it for them. I have now bought a foot for my machine, but it would have still taken me FOREVER.The rug was a find at Home Goods. I swear, that store sucks the money right out of my pocket.I discovered this chandelier on ebay, and got the shades in a local store called Heath & Co.I first tried these paint by numbers paintings, but felt that they were too close to the look of the fabric and didn't visually accomplish what I wanted. So after painting the frames white, I had to repaint the middle one to look like wood, to hang in the living room.I found these flamingos in the antique show in Stewart Fl, and the plates of course are from ebay. I sewed the cushions on the chairs, adding a small gathered skirt. Instead of a welting, I used a small flange at the top of the skirts. With the glass shelf added to the server, it was easier to accessorize the top.
The previous owner used this space as a study, but I wanted it to be the dining room.
